District play has started for the Bowie Jackrabbits. They opened the season hosting Pilot Point on Wednesday, March 5. Cody McMurray was the starter and pitched 5 solid innings. McMurray started slow and got into trouble the first inning but was able to get out of it. McMurray hit the first batter he faced and walked a couple more to load the bases. With a couple strikeouts and poor baserunning on Pilot Point's behalf, McMurray got out of the inning without giving up a run. Cody had good control and kept Pilot Point off balance the rest of the evening. He began to tire in the fifth and left the game with a 4 - 2 lead. McIntire started the sixth inning with Garytt Robinson on the mound. Garytt started his inning like McMurray did the first, by hitting the first batter he faced. Robinson had a tough time tonight. His control was off and two more runs were scored by Pilot Point to make the score 4 - 4. With 2 outs and the bases loaded, McIntire went to the bullpen again and brought in Bo Slaton. With memories still fresh from his last appearance in Archer City, Slaton took the mound and took control of the game. On his second pitch, he got the Pilot Point batter to ground to 2nd base for what should have been the third out. The ball was fumbled though and the batter reached 1st safely. This scored the runner from third. The runner coming from 2nd to 3rd though overran the base and was thrown out for the third out. This made the score 5 - 4 in favor of Pilot Point. In the bottom of the 6th, Bowie's bats came alive. The Rabbits had a strong 2 out rally that was started by Garytt Robinson slugging a double. By the end of the inning, Bowie had scored 7 runs and had the lead 11 - 5. All they needed were three more outs to put this game away. Slaton came out strong and didn't give up a hit. He struck out the first batter. The second batter grounded out to the shortstop, Garytt Robinson. The next batter flied out to centerfielder, Tyler Price for the third out to end the game with a final score of 11 - 5. Hopefully this will give Bowie some momentum to carry over into next week's games against Sanger and Argyle.
