Archer City Tournament
This tournament was a total shambles for the Jackrabbits. They showed weakness in all aspects of the game. With fielding errors, no offense and weak pitching, the Jackrabbits have a lot to improve on before district starts. Friday's games left the Rabbits wondering what they were doing on a baseball diamond. In the first game of the day, the Rabbits were completely dominated by Brock. The final score of 19 - 2 was a good indication of how the game went. Brock started their offensive show in the first inning and didn't let up. Bowie didn't score until the end of the game. Brock looked strong and will be a contender the rest of the year. In the second game against Archer City, Bowie played a better game. Archer City, last year's 1A state champs, couldn't score for the first 5 innings. Tyler Price, Bowie's starter, kept them off balance and left the game with a 2 - 0 lead. He walked the first batter in the 6th and Coach McIntire brought in Bo Slaton to close. With Slaton's second pitch of the game, Archer City took him deep and tied the score at 2. Things went downhill for Slaton after that. He managed to get 2 outs but could not get the third. Just when you thought he had the batter with two strikes, the batter would get a hit. With a couple of errors thrown in, Slaton left the game with the score in Archer City's favor, 7 - 2. That would be the final score. Coach McIntire ripped into Slaton. I think the frustration of the tournament had built up and McIntire let it out. Slaton was visibly upset. I hope the young right hander's confidence is not hurt by this showing and McIntire's reaction. We'll see as the season plays out. The Rabbits will face Pilot Point in the district opener next week at home.
