First Games of the Season
Well, the first couple of games of the 2008 Bowie Jackrabbit baseball season were played today at a tournament at Brock High School. The Jackrabbits did not fare too well. The first game was lost to Kennedale 10 - 7. Starter, Bo Slaton, lasted two innings giving up 6 runs. Not exactly the way he hoped his junior season would begin. Most of his pitches were belt high with just enough speed to make good batting practice. With a few errors thrown in by his infield, Slaton didn't have much of a chance. Bowie can't afford to give the other team four or five outs an inning. Stephen Williams came in to relieve Bo and gave up four more runs. Bowie's offense began to show signs of life beginning in the fifth inning but was too little too late. Laramie Stone came in and closed the game with the best performance of the day. Stone pitched the last three innings without yielding a run. This game though was decided in the first few innings and was not as close as the score indicated. The second game did not turn in any better results. Jackrabbits lost it to Palmer with a score of 6 - 1. Garytt Robinson was the starting pitcher for this game with Timothy Bendure coming in relief. The game began with a 3 - 1 score early but the Bowie offense could not produce any more help. There was not a lot to be happy about with the way the Jackrabbits played today, both offensively and defensively. Bowie needs to play better in all aspects of the game to be able to contend this season. Their next game will be Saturday morning at Brock High School at 10:30 AM with an opponent to be determined. Bowie needs a good showing to end this tournament on a high note. The scheduled starting pitcher is Timothy Bendure. Good Luck, Rabbits.
