District Win in Gainesville
With a 1 - 3 record in district play, Bowie had to win Friday night against Gainesville to stay in the district race. Garytt Robinson went to the mound to start the game for the Rabbits. The Bowie offense gave him a five run lead right off the bat. Gainesville came back to score three runs in the bottom of the first. This would be a close game throughout. Robinson left after four innings with a 6 - 3 lead. In the top of the fifth, Bowie scored four more runs to make it 10 - 3. Tyler Price started the fifth inning and had control problems from the start. One of his pitches reminded me of the Len Barker pitch in Cleveland that was ten feet over the catcher's head. You can see the catcher look up and just watch it go. It does make the batter wonder where the next pitch is going though. Price got through the fifth and started on the sixth but couldn't get an out. He gave up five runs and left with a runner on first and a score of 10 - 8. The next pitcher would be Timothy Bendure. Bendure faced one batter and gave up a double right back at him up the middle. Timothy left with runners at second and third with the score still 10 - 8. Bo Slaton was brought in next. The first batter he faced popped a shallow fly to center field but deep enough to score the run from third. The score now is 10 - 9 with the tying run at second. Slaton got the next two batters out to end the inning and hold onto the lead. Bowie scored two more runs in the top of the 7th to take a 12 - 9 lead. Gainesville came to bat needing to score at least three runs to stay in the game. The Leopards went three up and three down to end the game with the score 12 - 9. Robinson got the win to put him at 2 -2. Bowie had eleven hits but still had four errors. The Rabbits are going to have to be more consistent in the field to remain in contention. Decatur comes to Bowie Tuesday night for the next chapter in this story.

Why is this years Bowie Baseball team making so many errors on defense ?
Youth and lack of varsity experience are two reasons. The only starting position player to return to the same spot from last year is Kasey Kerr in left field. Bear Treadway and Garytt Robinson split time last year with senior players at their positions. Tyler Price has moved from second base to center field with Ben Robbins taking over second base this year. Timothy Bendure, Bo Slaton and Tel Lake are in their first year to man a position on varsity. Riley Dorman and Cody McMurray did not play baseball last year. The Rabbits are a young team with Cody McMurray being the only senior to play in the field. Add to the mix a first year head coach and you have the ingredients for a team that will grow a lot as the year goes by. Hopefully, the errors will decrease as these players gain experience and mature into their roles as varsity players.
